First online meeting of German Fellowship in their „digital yurt“
The planned meeting with the Guilds of the Verband Deutscher Altpfadfindergilden (VDAPG) in Germany could not take place because of the pandemic. About 40 members from all over the country gathered behind their screens on Saturday, 20 February 2021 to participate in an online meeting.
After a short technical briefing, Helmut Reitberger, president of the association, welcomed those gathered and reported on the work of the Board over the past year, which was marked by the challenges of the pandemic. A small ray of hope will be the General Assembly on the 1st weekend of October this year, which is planned to take place in person. In addition to the board elections, with which Helmut would like to end his mandate as chair, the guild-wide meeting is to be used as a future workshop to discuss the further development of the Adult Scout Association.
Due to the lack of communication and debate possibilities, the Board will not introduce the originally planned change of name and statutes now. The other Board members and speakers as well as the spokespersons of the regions and guilds reported on their work, which shows that scouts are "laughing and whistling" in the face of the COVID-19 virus, even though computers, tablets and smartphones cannot replace the communal singing around the campfire. This realisation also shaped the roundtable discussion in the afternoon, which, in addition to cooperation with the local youth associations, strategies for the post-Covid period or public relations work in the social media, had the new communication possibilities in the association and the guilds as its topic.
The idea was taken up immediately up to continue the Zoom room of the Fellowship permanently and to offer common times for meetings in this "digital yurt". On the 3rd Saturday of each month at 10 am, all interested members and friends are invited to the „digital yurt“ roundtable. The access data can be obtained from
