From 12th to 15th October 2012 more or less 40 former Scouts and Guides of South America and the Caribbean attended the “Camporee Nido de Tortolas” in Quilpué, Chile, which was held in the nearby village “Retiro” in a spiritual center of the Salesian congregation.
Participants came from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Curacao, Uruguay and Venezuela. Also present were Mida Rodrigues – Chairman World Committee, Verna Lopez – World Committee member in charge of the Western Hemisphere and Leny Doelman – Central Branch Coordinator.
The local Guides and Scouts associations were involved in the opening ceremony and other activities.
Main point of discussion was: “Foundation of a sub-region for South America”. FASGU (Fraternidad de Antiguos Scouts y Guias del Uruguay) presented a project with points of action to accomplish this plan.
Due to the tight time frame, meetings were held till late evening hours to deal with all the points of discussion. Highlight of these meetings was the election of an executive committee for this new sub-region. This committee is composed by one member of Chile, Uruguay and Argentina (see photo from left to right Bernardita Lara, Luis D'Ándrea and 'Myrian Noemi Vangetti. Commitments: All delegations will work on the recruitment of more members to form NSGF’s and the sub-regional Committee will work on the final regulations for a “South American sub-region”. On this tight program we had also time for presentation of projects by each delegation, invitation for coming gatherings, presentations by Verna (developments Western Hemisphere) and Leny (Twinning).
Mida, Verna and Leny held meetings with all delegations to take note of their anxiety and answered their questions.
We also shared a real campfire, nations fair and a formal scout dinner.
The Chile delegation organized two tours with the participants which they named “Ruta Del Sol” and Ruta del Mar”.
