The Argentina Central Branch group of Scouts y Guias Adultos de Argentina (SGAA), held their 3rd Gathering from 12 – 19 January 2013 in the southernmost city of the world. Ushuaia is the capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego. It was hosted by the local Guild of Ushuaia with the help of the SGAA Committee.
This year’s theme was “From the South we lit Scouting”.
The highlight of the opening ceremony was a speech by the Governor of the province, Mrs Maria Fabiana Rios, who has made it possible to facilitate this Gathering. She complimented for the values of Scouting and Guiding.
The event offered a range of activities for the 27 participants. They came from North and South Argentina and the days were filled with visits, laughter, socializing and learning from each other and also to get together with the local Scouts and Guides: the ingredients of the “Scout & Guide Spirit”. The participants also realized a good turn for the local community by cleaning the garden and planting flowers on the premises where local Scouts have their meetings. Two members from the local Guild are also leaders of this Scout group.
The Beagle channel, named after the British ship Beagle which sailed with the explorer Charles Darwin in 1833, was visited. Also walking in the National Park “Tierra del Fuego” was a highlight with its dramatic scenery of the Andes mountain range. waterfalls, forest and glaciers. Another highlight was drawing a painting on an approved wall in a street in order to memorize this event. Some new SGAA members repeated their Adult Scout promise and law while others were honored for being in the committee for a specific number of years.
The 4th Camporee National de SGAA (CA.NA.SGAA) will be held in 2015.
