National Fellowships

Scouting_Museum_NorwayWhilst visiting my pen pal in Oslo recently I had the opportunity to visit the Norwegian St. George guild office located in the Guide and Scout Headquarters in the city and to meet up with Bjorg Walstad, a member of the St. George-Guild International Committee.

We spent a delightful time discussing life in the ‘Guilds’ in Norway. Guiding was introduced in 1912 and has been very busy ever since. Scouts and Guides in Norway today work together under one umbrella. They join in many international activities and exchange projects.

Scout and Guide Projects which have benefited have been in Lesotho, a children’s home in Hong Kong and a community development in Ethiopia. They also have an emergency relief fund for use in relief operations. To raise funds for their own communities they hold an annual event when Guides undertake a variety of jobs to earn money.

Following lunch I visited the Guide and Scout Museum and found a wonderful display of memorabilia. www.speidermuseet.no

It was great fun. Don’t forget that Scouting and Guiding is worldwide so try and get in touch whilst on your travels.
