golf-074-small.jpgTen BP Scout Guild members had the opportunity to join the Scouts in the Asia Pacific Region in their Scouting Sunrise programme organized by the Sabah Scout Association. The event was to mark the 100 years of the Scouting on the 1st August 2007.

We were at the Mount Kinabalu National Park on the 31st July and there we were given a grand flag off by 300 over scouts and scout leaders from all over Sabah.
The ascent to Kinabalu after the ceremony with us joining the 30 scouts to climb Mt. Kinabalu's Lows peak, 4095 meters high. We reached the base camp in the evening at around 6pm. After taking our dinner and a short rest we started our climb at 2am in the morning so that we can see the sunrise on the 1st August. In spite of the rain and cold weather most of us made it to the peak to mark this great occasion celebrated all round the world. We had raised our flags and spirit flame banner at the peak and had to make our way down fast due to bad weather.
At the base we were once again given a grand welcome by the Sabah Minister of Sports giving away specially printed certificates to mark this occasion.
